This was one of my favorite recipes as a kid, it must be over 45 years old and still quite tasty.
1/2 cup butter
1 2/3 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs
2 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup milk
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup powdered sugar (use as much as needed to coat all of the cookies)
1. Thoroughly mix together butter, sugar and vanilla. Beat in eggs, melted chocolate (melt chocolate in a small bowl in the microwave on defrost until just melted). Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to the butter mixture along with the milk about a third at a time. Stir in the nuts (you can use hazelnuts or pecans or walnuts) and blend all ingredients together well.
2. Chill cookie dough for 3 hours. Form dough into 1 inch balls and roll in powdered sugar. Place on a greased cookie sheet 2 to 3 inches apart. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes. Cool slightly and remove to a cooling rack.
Makes 4 dozen cookies
Oven Temperature: 350°F
